Account Alerts
Understand the alert bell, what each severity means, how to dismiss an alert, and which alerts also reach you by email.
What is an alert?
An alert is a short, important notice about your account that needs your attention — for example, a low credit balance, an unusual spike in usage, or suspicious activity on an API key. Alerts appear inside the platform on a bell icon in the top navigation of the SEO and email platforms, and warning and critical alerts also reach you by email — so an urgent issue finds you wherever you are working. Both API customers and in-app credit customers receive alerts.
Alert severities
Every alert has a severity that tells you how urgent it is. Info is a routine, for-your-awareness notice. Warning means something needs your attention soon — for example, your balance is running low. Critical means something needs your attention now — for example, a key may be compromised. In the bell, severity is shown by a coloured marker on each alert: blue for info, amber for warning, and red for critical. Warning and critical alerts are also sent to you by email.
Seeing your alerts
When you have unread alerts, a bell icon with a count appears in the top navigation of the SEO and email platforms. The count shows how many alerts are waiting (anything above nine shows as 9+). Click the bell to open the list and read each alert's message. The bell only appears when you are signed in and have alerts to act on — when you are all caught up it stays out of your way.
Acknowledging an alert
Once you have read and dealt with an alert, click the dismiss button on it to acknowledge it. The alert is removed from your list straight away, and the bell's count goes down. Acknowledging only affects your view of the alert — it does not change the underlying situation. If a low-balance condition still exists, for instance, you should still top up; dismissing the alert simply confirms you have seen it.
Alerts by email
Warning and critical alerts are also delivered to your account email so an urgent issue reaches you even when you are not signed in. Info alerts stay in-app only. Email alerts respect your notification preferences: if you have turned off system and security-alert emails in your notification settings, we will not email you about them — they still appear in the bell. To avoid flooding your inbox, we send at most one email per alert type in a six-hour window.
Types of alert
You may see these alert types: Low balance — your credit balance is running low and may interrupt service; Usage spike — your usage has jumped unusually compared with your normal pattern; High error rate — an unusual number of your API requests are failing; Key compromised — an API key may have been exposed and should be rotated; Suspicious activity — unexpected account or key activity that may need review.
